Domaine de la Paille Basse

Souillac, Dordogne, France

A rural retreat with beautiful farmhouse-style buildings, traditional food and family fun

  • Keep the kids happily splashing with the parc’s three pools

  • Admire the vaulted ceiling in the traditional restaurant

  • Hike one of the parc’s nearby trails, stopping for a picnic

Arriving at the Domaine de la Paille Basse, you’ll be taken aback by the lush rolling countryside and the traditional French farmhouses. The scene is set for a rural retreat with peace, quiet and plenty of fun. Starting, most likely, with a dip in the pools and a ride on their waterslides.

Once you’ve dried off in the sun, it’s time to explore. Where first? The kids will want to head straight to the parc’s three playgrounds. But perhaps you’d rather a game on the petanque court followed by a stroll along one of the nearby hiking trails? End your day under the beautiful vaulted ceiling of the restaurant, with a little glass of something.

While you’re doing the grownup stuff, the kids can have the time of their lives in the kids’ club. They’ll get to meet the parc’s mascots and join in with treasure hunts and craft workshops. The teen club is just as fun. It offers sports tournaments, discos and games in the pool. Sleep well everyone.

Food, drink & entertainment

The three former farm buildings that make up the hamlet of the Domaine de la Paille Basse, now house the parc’s restaurants and bars. And they do it brilliantly, with their wooden beams, stone walls and centuries-old chestnut trees. Fine dining is the way of it here, with excellent regional specialities mixing with firm holiday classics too. Enjoy excellent wines and local beers in the bar, or take away a feast to enjoy at your place.
