Lido di Pomposa might be all about the beach, but there's plenty to see nearby. Comacchio has a number of historical buildings including the 17th century Church of the Rosary, while Pomposa Abbey is a benedictine monastery with pretty grounds - an ideal location for a family picnic. The attractive town of Ravenna is in easy reach, famous for its mosaics and listed monuments, it's also home to the Mirabilandia amusement park. Further afield - but absolutely worth the trip - is the magical city of Venice.
